about

In a bit of a musical rut I borrowed a friend's classical guitar and. Naturally I put in weird tunings and did terrible things to it (sorry Anne-Kirstin!!), and immediately I managed to reconcile a type of music I'd mostly written off out of hand. Devendra Banhart, John Darnielle, Kiran Leonard, Bill Callahan, you were all right all along... The resulting record spewed out nearly instantly, and is just me playing the guitar and singing (apart from the pseudo-title track where I play 3 guitars, and one track which has a load of delay on it at some points). It's recorded essentially as-written, warts and fuckups and all. Get drunk, get lost in the city, sleep in, skip work, do it all! The Anthropocene Blues are the pure revulsion and contempt created by the perpetually ending world we're in and the refusal by those who could change things to want anything other than more neoliberalism, but the album only touches on it briefly (if you call 15 minutes brief anyway...). For the most part this is a surprisingly optimistic record. Disgust and chaos are all well and good, but so is the answer! Socialism or barbarism!

Music written and recorded in two days in October, vocals written and recorded in two hours in November
